The Nourishing Well's Personal Chef Service

What do I bring to the table?
Besides creating a wealth of delicious food, I have 35 years of experience as a natural foods chef, teacher, holistic health counselor and indispensable experience for parents since I am a mother of 5 having raised my children with a wonderfully healthy diet. This has proven to be of great benefit to my clients that are families with children.
Should you desire, I am also able assist you if there are specific health concerns. I can give guidance in food choices and cooking styles that will help an individual or the entire family.

What can I cook?
While many are aware that I am skilled in all types of whole~food … slow~food cooking including vegetarian, vegan and macrobiotic, the fact is I able cook just about anything. The only stipulation is the food must be top quality and organic, including any animal food that is used. Should you desire that I cook animal foods for you, I have sources for poultry, meat and dairy from local pastured animals.

How much food do you get?
This all depends on a few things. How many people will I be cooking for and what style of cooking do they like?
For example, gourmet dishes take longer and will give you less quantity, simple preparations will yield more quantity and I can prepare more dishes. One person or a couple will get enough food to last a week, while for a family of 6 the food prepared won't last as long.
Each client I work with is unique in their likes and dislikes and the foods I prepare for each are geared to their tastes, health needs and lifestyle. On the average, in 8 hours I generally turn out 12-15 dishes with enough quantity in each dish to last for a few meals for four adults or an entire week for an individual.

Where do I cook?
I can cook at your home or in my kitchen in Havertown.

What is the cost?
One Couple or Family
This is for someone who knows they want a personal chef in their life for years to come.
A full day commitment once a week is required for a minimum of 44 weeks out of the year. My rates are $50 an hour. One day's work a week would be $400. This does not include food.
Payment is made in the form of a retainer, either once or twice a month, throughout the year.
If I cook more than 44 weeks then, of course, those extra days will be paid for.

Cooking for a small group
Two or Three Couples
If you are a couple you might want to consider splitting the day with one or two more couple. The per day cost is $450 for labor which is divided with each couple, plus the cost of the food.

Share with up to 6 individuals.
The cost of $450 per day for labor is divided between 6 individuals plus the cost of the food.

Short Term Cooking, Consultations, Coaching and Classes
So, you want to cook for yourself but don't know where to begin?
Several options are available to you.

6 week Introductory Program
After an initial consultation I will create a 6 week program to teach you how to shop, where to shop, create individualized menu plans and come into your home to give you private cooking classes.
Who would benefit from this program?
  • Those who have no current health concerns but realize they need a healthier diet that incorporates real food.
  • Parents who want to create a better diet and healthy eating habits for their entire family.
  • Anyone with food allergies and dietary restrictions ie: soy, wheat gluten, all gluten, candida.
  • Someone on a macrobiotic healing diet or someone who is cooking for a person on a healing diet.

Short Term Cooking
6 weeks to 6 months
Who would benefit from short term cooking?
Short term cooking would help anyone unable to cook for themselves due to life circumstances.
  • This is excellent for a family after the birth of a new baby.
  • Someone on a healing diet.
  • Temporary incapacitation due to an injury.
  • You're thinking about hiring someone for a long-term commitment but want to give it a try first.

Marilyn Moser-Waxman, along with her team of students and interns, creates delicious, healthy, home-style whole foods meals every Monday and Wednesday.

Home-Style Whole Foods Meals are Available for You on The Main Line, The Greater Northeast, Elkins Park, Jenkintown, Germantown, Mt Airy, Ambler, Center City, Doylestown, Southern New Jersey, and Surrounding Areas

Vegan • Vegetarian • Macrobiotic • or Anyone!

While these meals are suited to anyone on a vegan, vegetarian or macrobiotic diet, this is just good, delicious, wholesome food. Many of the clients will supplement the meals they receive from me with the animal food of their choice.

What's in your meal (and what's not)
Meals are free of all animal products including dairy, and are also free of refined sugar.
Rice syrup, agave syrup and maple syrup are the only sweeteners used in the desserts.
The meals are full of freshly prepared vegetables, grains, vegetarian sources of protein such as beans, tofu, tempeh and seitan and the occasional sea vegetable. All of the ingredients are top quality and nearly all are organic. Locally grown vegetables are used when available and in season.

Standard • $22

Includes a grain dish, three other sides, and the choice of either soup or dessert.

Standard Plus • $28
The same size portions of the main platter as above but with soup and dessert.

Hearty Meal • $36
Includes hearty size portions of the grain, three sides, soup and dessert.

Ala Carte
Create the meal you want or add extra portions to the above meals.
